Social Media News to Know: December 2020

  |   Insights   |   No comment

At Tripepi Smith, we know it’s hard to stay up to speed on social media platforms when they constantly change. You may not always have the time to learn about the latest and greatest social media trends (let alone the luxury of resources and budget to implement them). Instead, let us provide you with a regular roundup of social media news we think you need to know. Here are four stories that caught our attention this month:

  1. Instagram announced 10 new messaging features coming to Instagram Messenger. The first, Watch Together, allows users to watch IGTV, Reels and TV shows, movies and trending videos in real-time with each other. Second, Instagram launched chat themes for users to personalize their messages as well as a vanish mode which makes messages disappear after you leave a chat. Watch Together and chat themes are just a few of the ten new messaging features, including selfie stickers, custom emoji reactions, animated message effects and message controls.
  2. Twitter updated their Hateful Conduct Policy to include more details, examples of violations and explanations of prohibited tweets. The mega-platform also updated its internal training policy to combat hateful conduct.
  3. Facebook rolled out a series of measures intended to provide accurate information, support relief efforts and keep people connected during the pandemic, including removing false claims about vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts on Facebook and Instagram.
  4. Hootsuite now supports posting Stories and carousel posts from its platform.
