Western City Magazine cover and story photosWe are very proud to announce that Business Analyst Bria Balliet’s photo was featured on the cover of the 2019 April issue of Western City Magazine. Bria’s photos on the magazine cover and within the cover story highlighted The Link– the City of Santa Ana’s interim homeless shelter that opened in Fall 2018 in an unprecedented 28 days from start to finish.

“The speedy completion of The Link was a huge effort in response to the homeless crisis in the City of Santa Ana. This interim shelter and the success stories coming out of it are a testament to the City’s commitment to serving our homeless population, as well as the skill and care provided by the shelter’s operator, Mercy House,” says City of Santa Ana Homeless Services Manager Hafsa Kaka. “I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to share our story with other local government leaders. Tripepi Smith delivered stunning imagery and sincerely captured the significance of this achievement. That Western City cover photo is the face of progress for addressing homelessness in Santa Ana.”

The issue’s cover story, “Santa Ana Establishes 200-Bed Interim Homeless Shelter in 28 Days,” was captured through Bria’s lens as she interacted with shelter guests, toured the new facility and assisted City staff. The article also featured five other photos shot by Bria from the day’s opening celebration and in the months following as guests moved in.

“It was clear after exploring the facility and talking to guests, like Jeri, that the City and Mercy House had done an exceptional job providing a clean and safe shelter in such a short amount of time,” said Bria. “I was happy that my photos could play a role in sharing their story and showcasing this amazing facility.”
