City of Vallejo Adopts New District Map with Support from Tripepi Smith
The City of Vallejo launched its redistricting effort in April 2021 and tapped Tripepi Smith to assist in engaging its local community. Following a public meeting on March 22, 2022, the City Council formally adopted a new Council district map, concluding the redistricting process.
“The redistricting process will have a direct impact on our residents in terms of their local representation on matters that are really important to them,” said City of Vallejo City Clerk Dawn Abrahamson. “We wanted to ensure that all communities in Vallejo had an opportunity to participate in the process and express their ideas. Tripepi Smith did just that, helping us transparently share information throughout the process.”
Focused on engaging Vallejo’s diverse communities, the Tripepi Smith team – consisting of Principal Jennifer Nentwig and Business Analyst Clare Burgess – conducted outreach to inform members of the public about redistricting and drive engagement in the City’s process. In addition to meeting outreach requirements such as conducting four public hearings and posting Public Notices and meeting materials online, the team’s engagement efforts included:
- Created a dedicated website for the redistricting process: mapvallejo.org.
- Held a virtual community workshop to gather public input on communities of interest and provide a demonstration on the mapping tools.
- Drafted informative social media posts twice a month beginning in June 2021 through the map adoption in March 2022.
- Conducted phone and email outreach to community-based organizations throughout the process to inform them on the status of redistricting as well as upcoming participation opportunities.
- Distributed flyers to encourage public participation at the public hearings.
- Wrote and distributed 6 press releases to local and regional media outlets.
- Scripted and animated a video to explain the purpose and process of redistricting.
“It was a pleasure to work with the City of Vallejo on another project,” said Jennifer. “I’m proud of our team’s work supporting City staff and engaging community members to achieve an equitable map that reflects Vallejo’s community.”
