TS Provides Voter Engagement for Culver City

  |   News   |   No comment

During the November 2016 election, residents of Culver City voted on Measure CW, the Clean Water, Clean Beach Parcel Tax. For the tax measure to pass as a special tax with a narrow application/use, a two-thirds vote of approval was required. The City hired Tripepi Smith to provide support in driving voter outreach and access to information about Measure CW so that residents could make an informed decision about the parcel tax measure.

Tripepi Smith executed a three-month outreach program to assist Culver City in communicating directly with its residents and driving them to a webpage with details about the Measure. The team worked with the City to create a digital and mailing engagement effort to help resident’s cut through the chatter of all the other elections to focus on information about this measure impacting their own city.

The Culver City community voted on Measure CW on November 6, 2016. The tax measure passed with 73.82% of voters in favor and 26.18% voting no.

“First and foremost, Culver City’s goal was to directly engage with its community and provide residents with information so they could vote with a clear understanding of the Measure,” said Ryder Todd Smith, President of Tripepi Smith. “Life is complex and busy, so getting voters to pay attention to a down ballot item is difficult in a big election year, but the City wanted to ensure the community had every opportunity to understand Measure CW so they could make an informed decision.”

In the coming months, Culver City will use the dedicated funds from Measure CW to pay for water quality programs and new infrastructure that will reduce pollution reaching the City’s stormwater system and the Ballona Creek Estuary. Measure CW is expected to generate about $2 million per year.
