Tripepi Smith Creates Animated Explainer Video for the City of South Gate

City of South Gate logoWhen the City of South Gate needed to educate residents about new organics recycling requirements due to Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), they tapped Tripepi Smith to create an animated video explaining the change.

SB 1383 regulations went into effect on January 1, 2022, and since then, cities throughout the state of California have begun making necessary changes. SB 1383 requires that jurisdictions conduct education and outreach on organics recycling to all residents, businesses (including those that generate edible food that can be donated), haulers, solid waste facilities, local food banks, and other food recovery organizations.

To help stakeholders better understand why and how to sort their organic waste, team Tripepi Smith created a simple, informative animated video. Together with Senior Business Analyst Kaitlyn Wu, Director Cameron Grimm took the City’s vision for the video and transformed it into animated graphics that share the desired information in an easily digestible format.

The video flows comprehensively, first sharing the background of SB 1383 and then moving on to what residents of South Gate can do to properly dispose of and recycle their organic waste.

City of South Gate Management Analyst Giselle Hernandez shared, “Calling upon our residents to change their behavior is a big ask, so being as communicative as possible about the new regulations is essential. Throughout the process, the Tripepi Smith team has been responsive and proactive, and we’re proud to be able to share a video that all our community members can watch and easily understand.”

Tripepi Smith developed the animated video for the City of South Gate as part of a year-long organics recycling outreach effort, which also includes the creation of a dedicated website, social media, e-newsletter content, print collateral, and press releases.

Tripepi Smith has worked with several cities on their SB 1383 education and outreach including the City of Costa Mesa, Orange, Manteca and more.
