The City of South Pasadena enlisted Tripepi Smith to launch a dynamic outreach effort to educate the community about the redistricting process. Through a successful partnership with the City and National Demographics Corporation, Business Analysts Sydni Overly and Allison Torres successfully executed the City’s communications and outreach needs.

“Soliciting public input and draft maps were a top priority throughout our entire redistricting process,” said Management Services Director Lucy Demirjian. “Tripepi Smith was a tremendous help in ensuring that our residents were informed and engaged in the process. The knowledge and expertise demonstrated by their team was invaluable and exceeded our expectations of what could be accomplished.”

To reach the diverse community of South Pasadena, Tripepi Smith spanned several channels of communication and leveraged a full array of outreach platforms to connect with the public. These efforts included:

  • Two redistricting workshops to collect community of interest feedback and demonstrate the use of mapping tools.
  • A mailer highlighting participation opportunities that included a paper map was sent to every resident to prompt map drawing and public engagement.
  • Email or phone contact with nearly 100 organizations and stakeholders to proactively share redistricting related information, including public hearing flyers and press releases.
  • 23 social media posts, including two paid advertisements, spread across Facebook and Instagram through the months of September 2021 to April 2022.
  • An informational e-newsletter campaign sent to 1,639 residents to drive awareness of the redistricting effort and the opportunity to participate in public hearings and community workshops.
  • Rollout of the redistricting website, southpasadenaca.gov/redistricting, where extensive resources were made available for the public to learn about the redistricting process, access all the materials and meeting information, complete a survey regarding communities of interest and to draw maps to submit for consideration.
  • Press releases and flyers highlighting key milestones and events in the redistricting process produced in English, Spanish, Traditional Chinese and Korean.
  • Creation of an informational video that was placed on the website and social media.

“It was a pleasure to work with the City of South Pasadena and engage with their residents on such an important and complex topic like redistricting,” said Sydni. “The level of community involvement during this process shows that the City achieved its public engagement goal and Tripepi Smith is proud to have been a part of that effort.”
