Stock Photography: Why it Matters and How it's Done logoPhotography is one of the most important tools in capturing a moment and eliciting an emotional response. Whether it’s connecting us to the past, reminding us of a shared experience, or inspiring future action, photography is a powerful way to engage an audience.

Stock photography is a great way to collect general photos of events, locations and projects (either in progress or completed) that can be used to promote community development. The Tripepi Smith photo team has ample experience in capturing stock photography and is well-versed in the steps to take in order to make shoots seamless and effective.

  1. To prepare a photographer for the stock photoshoot, provide a list of locations or events that you would like captured. The photographer will be able to determine logistical items, such as the amount of time needed for the photos.
  2. Creating or advising on a shotlist alongside a photographer can help create stronger images, as well. Organization to this degree will not only keep the photographer timely but will also give a better sense of priorities on the photoshoot.
  3. Have the correct tools. This seems like an obvious step, but tools like a professional-level camera and lenses, accessories, tripod and plenty of batteries and digital storage for a full day’s work ensure an efficient and quality photography experience.
  4. Know how the photos are intended to be used. Location photos can show a landmark for where an event can be held, for example. Event photography can help to promote an upcoming gathering on social media platforms. Mailers, magazines and other print materials also benefit from the use of imagery to supplement descriptions and heighten the overall experience for the reader.

The ability to momentarily stop time with a photo allows for a scene to be interpreted and can potentially lead to sharing with others for even more engagement. A great stock photo can grab someone’s attention in a way words alone cannot.
