Logo for SBCECalifornia Choice Energy Authority (CalChoice) enlisted Tripepi Smith to produce a video highlighting one of their members, Santa Barbara Clean Energy (SBCE). SBCE is the City of Santa Barbara’s community choice aggregation (CCA) program, which began providing service in 2021.

The City’s CCA program gives residents and businesses in Santa Barbara a choice in where and how their energy is sourced. SBCE offers its customers the option to receive 100% carbon-free energy at rates competitive to the investor-owned utility. Revenue generated through the program is allocated toward local projects, including renewable infrastructure developments, energy efficiency programs, customer rebates and more.

The video features Alelia Parenteau, Sustainability & Resilience Director for the City of Santa Barbara, who elaborates on the history, origin and ultimate benefit of Santa Barbara’s CCA program. The video includes details about current programs available to the community, as well as information about future plans. Tripepi Smith Business Analyst Charlie Mounts was key in coordinating the shoot, and Videographer Ethan de la Peña assisted with production and editing.

CalChoice General Manager Cathy DeFalco and Energy Programs Manager Kathy Wells expressed their appreciation for the project, with Cathy stating, “The Tripepi Smith team created an impressive video that effectively captures the essential information and details about Santa Barbara Clean Energy. CCAs can be complex for the average resident to grasp in terms of how they function and their benefits. The use of a creative medium with engaging visuals has greatly aided in explaining the program effectively.”

About Santa Barbara Clean Energy

Santa Barbara Clean Energy brought to you by the City of Santa Barbara, gives us a choice in how much carbon-free and greenhouse gas-free electricity we use. In 2002, California Assembly Bill 117 gave local governments the option to provide electricity choices to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This allows for a partnership between Santa Barbara Clean Energy and Edison to provide clean energy.
