Ryder at ICMA 2018Baltimore, Maryland hosted public agencies from around the world this week as the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) hosted its 104th Annual Conference from Sept. 23-26. The event is a major milestone for the association as not only is it the single largest event of the year, but also represents the point of transition for the governance of ICMA. This year featured Californian El Cerrito Assistant to the City Manager Karen Pinkos as she was inaugurated as the President of the organization. Tripepi Smith President Ryder Todd Smith attended the conference to visit with clients and stay in-tune with trends and issues impacting local government in today’s environment.

The Annual Conference featured an exhibit hall with vendors explaining their services that help public agencies execute for their constituencies. Tripepi Smith clients Avenu Insights & Analytics and Center for Public Safety Management (CPSM) were exhibiting on the floor.

Attending the ICMA Annual Conference has taken on even more importance for Tripepi Smith as the firm expands beyond California. ICMA provides a chance to see and meet clients from across the United States.

“The growth of Tripepi Smith has given us a chance to expand our involvement and presence in more local government associations, and this includes ICMA. This is a huge conference, but with our expanding geographic footprint, it makes sense to invest the time and be present,” said Ryder. “I am excited to see my friend Karen rise to the role of President. She has been dedicated to her work in El Cerrito and with ICMA. California is a fount of leadership for ICMA.”

This was the fourth year in a row that Tripepi Smith has been present at the ICMA Annual Conference. Ryder has previously traveled to Seattle, Kansas City and San Antonio for the conference. Next year, Ryder plans to travel to Nashville for the 105th ICMA Annual Conference. Ryder has previously been a speaker at the conference covering social media use by public agencies.
