Culver City City HallTripepi Smith client Culver City recently won “Best in Citizen Engagement” in Vision Internet’s North America-wide “What’s Next Awards” competition. This award recognizes the City for expanding its engagement efforts through its interactive website and social media presence.

Vision’s tools and Culver City’s social media platforms have created an easily-accessible space for constituents to interact with the City. The City has leveraged Vision’s “visionLive” content management system to promote City news, and its “visionPulse” feature to create long-term “topic” pages that keep the public up-to-date on important issues. Additionally, Culver City has worked with Tripepi Smith to build an engaged community on social media.

“Culver City has a passionate community. In this City, where there are a lot of voices and activity at any given time, the Council and City Staff found it necessary to go where the residents are: social media,” said Ryder Todd Smith, Tripepi Smith President. “We’ve had the honor of working with City Staff to create a huge shift in resident engagement. Leveraging Vision to promote City information was a part of that, but driving traffic to the site with social media was also a critical component.”

After six months of working with Tripepi Smith, Culver City’s monthly Facebook Post Reach rose 1,057% and its monthly Facebook Post Engagement increased by 872%. Moreover, the firm’s careful attention to the City’s platforms and national and local publications has streamlined a process that gathers community input on a variety of topics–a priority to Culver City’s City Council and Staff.

Vision, a web development and hosting company that serves over 600 cities and counties in North America, hosts its annual “What’s Next Awards” to recognize local government websites for excellence in online innovation, citizen engagement, visual impact, transparency and green gov. This year, it had the most nominees ever and named just five winners.

“Obviously a website is important, but increasingly, residents are engaging over social media, and in the last year, your social media engagement has gone up,” said Vision CEO David Nachman at the October 23 City Council meeting. “We’ve got very few customers who track their engagement at the level that you do, and those numbers are numbers we don’t see across anyone in our customer base.”
