Tripepi Smith Creates Postcard with CMSD to Educate Customers on Fighting Food Waste Odors
In April 2023, the Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) partnered with Tripepi Smith to create a postcard highlighting tips for fighting food waste odors. The purpose of the mailer was to help educate customers about organics recycling and to help them mitigate food waste odors as summer heat drew near.
“Thanks to Tripepi Smith, we had a large increase in engagement from customers requesting kitchen pails for recycling food scraps,” said Scott Caroll, CMSD general manager. “Educating our community on proper organics recycling — including food scraps and kitchen waste — is a top priority of ours, and we’re thankful for the ways this postcard advanced that goal.”
The postcard shares helpful tips for reducing odors, such as lining containers with newspaper or brown paper bags and storing them in a cool place. The mailer served as one engagement tool among many, as CMSD has partnered with Tripepi Smith to conduct rigorous outreach surrounding SB 1383 and its organics recycling mandates. In addition to this postcard, the District has engaged and educated customers through website content, social media posts, PSA videos, events, and more.
“As more and more Californians start to recycle their food scraps and other organic waste, questions about issues like potential odors are common,” said Tripepi Smith Principal Jennifer Nentwig. “Through this postcard, we were pleased to help the Costa Mesa Sanitary District engage customers and introduce them to eco-friendly ways to proactively combat odors.”
