BCC 2023 photosIn June 2023, the Blind Children’s Center (BCC) broke ground on a $6 million renovation to their permanent facility, designed in 1950 by LA architectural icon Paul R. Williams, the first African American to be inducted into the American Institute of Architects. In an effort to market and leverage the building’s renovation and increase earned media for the project, the Blind Children’s Center tapped Tripepi Smith for assistance with outreach and media relations.

Tripepi Smith’s support has included developing a marketing plan and social media strategy, identifying news outlets, crafting media kits and press releases and pitching stories related to the history, impact and progress of the renovation and BCC. Tripepi Smith will work to position BCC as a premier resource for children who are visually impaired and to develop stronger connections between BCC and their community.

“We are excited to have Tripepi Smith’s partnership as we embark on this significant renovation journey,” said CEO Sarah Orth. “The Blind Children’s Center’s incredible history is an important element of our work. We are confident that Tripepi Smith’s experience, communication skills and creativity will help us share our story and reach new outlets and audiences interested in supporting our cause.”

Leading the engagement is Tripepi Smith Principal Katherine Griffiths, who has volunteered at the Center since 2001 and currently serves on its board of directors. She is joined by Business Analyst Alyson Nichols and Junior Business Analysts Jacob Lyle and Olivia Rizzuto. Junior Business Analysts Amy Gallagher and Audrin Baghaie paved the way for the engagement through their photo and video coverage of two special events: a groundbreaking for the renovation and a Light the Way Celebration at the Los Angeles River Center & Gardens.

“It is a pleasure to work with BCC on their media outreach and leverage our connections,” said Katherine. “Our team looks forward to strategizing and publicizing this exciting update and enhancing the reputation of this important building and BCC.”

About the Blind Children’s Center

Founded in 1938, the Blind Children’s Center (BCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides FREE high-quality early childhood education programs for children ages 18 months to 5 years-old (Head Start, Early Head Start, CA State Preschool). We also offer Early Head Start services for infants and toddlers from birth through 36 months and pregnant mothers. BCC has specific expertise in supporting very young children who are blind and visually impaired and those with multiple disabilities. Our small class sizes, experienced staff and specialists all lend to individualized instruction and support for each child in our program.

As a delegate of Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) our programs are funded in part by the Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services, and California Department of Education.
