Tripepi Smith Tapped for Cupertino’s Climate Action Plan (CAP)

Tripepi Smith delivered the City of Cupertino’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) Progress Report to continue the City’s transparency efforts with residents and showcase the City’s progress toward its 2020 greenhouse gas emission reductions goals.

Tripepi Smith Art Director Kevin Bostwick and Graphic Designer Kjerstin Wingert led the firm’s efforts to create an effective and vibrant collateral piece for the City to distribute to its residents.

“I’ve worked with Cupertino on several design projects and each one supports the City’s dedication to clear communication with their residents. This project was no different,” said Kjerstin. “The CAP was filled with statistics, which required staff and our team to think creatively about how best to display the many different data points without it becoming  hard to understand. We love working with Cupertino and providing them with materials that help their residents understand how their government is improving their community and the world.”

The 11-page document used Cupertino’s brand colors of deep red and navy blue as well as explanatory graphs, charts and photos to enhance the report and guide readers through often complicated concepts. Forest greens and bright oranges bring the pages to life so residents stay engaged while learning how the City is meeting its goals to reduce community emissions.

Cupertino decreased its emissions by 24% by cutting its electricity use, transportation and wastewater despite increasing job opportunities and a growing population. The report also highlighted City-run programs that contributed to emissions reduction such as the Bicycle Transportation Plan and Tree Canopy Assessment.

“As part of the City’s Climate Action Plan, we set ambitious goals to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 15% below our 2010 levels – which we have already reached,” said Gilee Corral, Cupertino’s sustainability program coordinator. “Tripepi Smith helped the City share all the progress the City and our residents have made to reduce these levels in a readable and visually compelling format. We’re proud of Cupertino’s progress thus far and thankful Tripepi Smith could beautifully and creatively display it in this report.”

Tripepi Smith was first tapped by Cupertino in Summer 2015 to complete a communications assessment for the City. The City then looked to the firm in February 2018 to produce a monthly newsletter and just extended its contract through June 2021. Team Tripepi Smith provides graphic design services and layout for each newsletter, as well as custom artwork when needed, in addition to ad hoc projects such as the Budget at a Glance.
