CupertinoTripepi Smith has delivered a comprehensive style guide to the City of Cupertino. The guide clearly defines the City’s brand with fonts, colors, logos and standardized templates. The City engaged Tripepi Smith to bring clarity to the existing styles and to refresh certain key aspects that would then be shared throughout the organization.

“The City is pleased with the work Tripepi Smith has delivered to refine our City’s identity. Tripepi Smith’s product will support consistent implementation of the City’s brand and ultimately enhance Staff’s productivity and adherence to our style guide requirements,” said Brian Babcock, public information officer for the City of Cupertino. “We wanted a refreshed style guide and got much more. Now we have a strong array of assets as well as Staff’s interest in using them to make the most of their work.”

The effort was led by Ryder Todd Smith, president of Tripepi Smith, and Kjerstin Nichter, graphic designer for Tripepi Smith. The team kicked off the engagement with a series of group interviews with 31 City Staff members from various departments and divisions. The interviews helped Tripepi Smith understand the brand consistency challenges of the City and other issues related to the City’s style guide.

The City’s former style guide was the basis for the refreshed guide. The new style guide includes a complete PowerPoint deck, press release template, letterhead design and expanded color palette, among other resources.

“I love it when a client invites us back to do more work. It is the ultimate endorsement. Leveraging our prior work on the Communications Assessment with Cupertino in 2015, our team had a strong sense of the City’s character, making this identity refresh a lot easier,” said Smith. “I look forward to seeing how Cupertino leverages the style guide and generates more consistency in visuals across the organization.”

Tripepi Smith has been engaged by the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, City of Norwalk, Newcomb Williams Financial Group, MuniEnvironmental and Liberty Systems Management among others to deliver branding projects, including logos, style guides and website redesigns.
