New Phone System for City of Placentia

The City of Placentia (www.placentia.org) has implemented a new phone system. The Cisco VOIP solution replaces a legacy Avaya solution that was over ten years old. Migration to the new VOIP solution is expected to both reduce ongoing support costs and provide new productivity tools that enable more effective staff communication and overall increased productivity.

Tripepi Smith provided project oversight, staff advice and general project management to the effort. The project also involved migrating to a fiber-based PRI from Time Warner from the legacy ATT T1 solution. The City also used this opportunity to upgrade their saturated T1 internet connection to a synchronous 10 MBPS connection that greatly enhanced staff connectivity.

Concurrent with the phone system replacement, new switching infrastructure that supported Quality-of-Services was implemented to support VOIP communications and call clarity.

City Administrator Troy Butzlaff described the project as the least disruptive telephone system change over he had witnessed.

“Phone system upgrades are one of the most complex and projects an IT department can face. This project benefited from the guidance of Cisco, the skills of Ubisec, the involvement of Synoptek as the IT administrator fo the City and telecom management from iCT. The patience of staff, skill of execution and proper planning made this project a success,” stated Ryder Todd Smith, president of Tripepi Smith.
