Yucca Valley Enlists Tripepi Smith for Western Joshua Tree Mailer

Late last year, the state of California advanced the Western Joshua Tree (WJT) to a candidate species under the California Endangered Species Act. This designation means it is currently under review for potential addition to either the endangered species or threatened species lists. In January 2021, the Town of Yucca Valley enlisted the help of Tripepi Smith to craft a mailer to educate residents on how the change affected them and their property.

“With the recent advancement made for the protection of WJTs, Yucca Valley wanted to keep our residents informed of the review and all that it entails for the species,” said Yucca Valley Town Clerk Lesley Copeland. “It is crucial we abide by these new restrictions and provide residents with information in a digestible format. Tripepi Smith delivered just that with a visually appealing and educational piece.”

Senior Business Analyst Cameron Grimm and Business Analyst Sara Madsen took the lead on this project with the creation of an 8.5″ x 5.5″ half-page mailer to be sent out to all residents providing context for this ecological update. The mailer covered information regarding the new protections given to WJTs, as well as how to best approach a situation where one is present or impeding either commercial or residential property.

“The Town of Yucca Valley has made it a priority to keep their residents in the know when it comes to the status of the WJT,” said Cameron. “We applaud the City for their commitment to educating residents as well as creating a forum for conversation about the WJT.”
