City of Twentynine Palms Adopts New District Map with Outreach Aid from Tripepi Smith
The City of Twentynine Palms began its redistricting effort in July 2021 and recognized the need to enlist Tripepi Smith to aid in the outreach component of the process. The City tapped Tripepi Smith for its services in September 2021. Following the public hearing on March 8, 2022, the City Council adopted the Orange Map as the new Council District Map, concluding the redistricting process. The map was adopted by resolution following the Council’s vote.
“Participating in the redistricting process leads to a better understanding of community needs and lays the groundwork for achieving a strong, collective voice. This is a complex process that requires close collaboration between special legal counsel, a demographer and an outreach firm. We are grateful to Tripepi Smith for their work and engagement with the Twentynine Palms community, as it was an essential part of this process,” said Twentynine Palms City Manager Frank Luckino.
Focused on engaging Twentynine Palms’ diverse communities, the Tripepi Smith team–consisting of Business Analyst Allison Torres and Business Analyst Danielle Rodriguez–conducted an extensive outreach campaign to drive engagement and participation from members of the public. In addition to meeting outreach requirements, such as conducting four public hearings and posting Public Notices and meeting materials online, the team’s additional engagement efforts included:
- Creating a dedicated website for the redistricting process: draw29palms.org
- Hosting a virtual community workshop to gather public input on communities of interest and providing a demonstration of the mapping tools
- Creating and posting weekly social media content from September 2021 through March 2022
- Phone and email outreach to community-based organizations to provide educational materials on redistricting and to inform them of the redistricting process status
- Designing flyers to encourage public participation at the public hearings
- Managing Facebook advertisements to promote the map submission process and deadline
- Distributing press releases to local and regional media outlets
“The City of Twentynine Palms is committed to communicating effectively with the public and encouraging community participation in its processes,” said Allison. “It has been our pleasure to support the City by engaging the community to help adopt district lines that will shape the future of Twentynine Palms for the next 10 years.”
