Tripepi Smith President Ryder Todd Smith presented twice during the 2016 Municipal Management Association of Southern California (MMASC) Annual Conference hosted at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. Spanning December 7 to 9, the annual conference is MMASC’s signature event: a significant opportunity to enhance individual capabilities and career trajectory, the event is the premier training conference in Southern California for local government professionals.

The subject of the first panel focused on increasing and strengthening a public agency’s online strategy. Entitled “Digital Tools and Techniques to Elevate Your City’s Outreach”, Ryder presented alongside Tanya Spiegel, Economic Development Coordinator of City of Ontario. The pair, backed by first-hand experience in leveraging digital and social tools for marketing, led an interactive discussion with the crowded room on the benefits of having an online presence and the future of city government websites. Within the breakout session, they also outlined best practices and specific “how to’s” for online and digital communications. Ryder presented his key axioms of communication that back his philosophy about effective local government communications.

At the second presentation, Ryder gave a “Power Talk” on the topic of “Websites in Your City”. He engaged the audience with a discussion on how to optimize their website, key considerations for implementing new websites and provided a context for the essential role that the city website plays alongside social media, video, print media and other mediums of communication. As more people begin to rely on various online platforms for the latest news and improved ways to communicate, ensuring that the public agency website is both accessible and contemporary becomes paramount.

“We always appreciate having Ryder as a speaker,” said Alma Janabajab, 2015-2016 MMASC President. “Not only does he present with humor, but he has years of experience in online and digital communications to back him up; he is an expert in his field. The team at Tripepi Smith have continually helped our organization to achieve our mission of developing our member’s careers and, for that, I am deeply grateful.”
