TSA Delivers Communications Assessment for Norwalk

cityofofnorwalklogoThe City of Norwalk hired Tripepi Smith at the start of 2015 to assess their internal communication processes and platforms. The goal of the engagement was to enhance transparency and community engagement while identifying processes that could be made more efficient to help tell the story of the City. Tripepi Smith delivered a final report to the City Council on the findings of the assessment on July 7th as a special study session of the Norwalk City Council.

The assessment process took sixteen weeks and involved interviewing over 50 people including councilmembers, staff, staff from overlapping public agencies and residents, including teens from the local teen center. The resulting 87 page report documented the City’s efforts to execute communications and identified several opportunities to improve or expand communications to better reach residents.

“The City of Norwalk makes a substantial investment in keeping our public informed of opportunities to celebrate at community events, take advantage of City services or learn about issues affecting our community, but we know there is always more to be done,” said Mike Egan, City Manager. “Tripepi Smith offered a unique approach to help us learn and improve. The report they delivered is excellent and has been well-received by the City Staff and Council. We plan to continue working with Tripepi Smith to implement their ideas and help in other areas in the City.”

Tripepi Smith’s unique communications assessment offering has now been executed for several cities, including: Duarte, La Cañada Flintridge, Saratoga and Livermore. The report provide practical and actionable steps for cities to take to improve resident engagement while also clearly documenting current practices to management has a better understanding of the organization’s communication capabilities and processes.

In addition to delivering the communications assessment report, Tripepi Smith also provided a “brand-light” assessment to help the City Staff and Council better understand how the City’s identity and brand are executed in the communications and where there are opportunities to close that gap.
