On Monday, January 26, 2016, Tripepi Smith President Ryder Todd Smith announced that the technology-based public affairs firm will increase its annual sponsorship of the League of California Cities to $5,000. Tripepi Smith’s increased support is directed at the Institute for Local Government (ILG), to help their expanded research on city use of social media and web-based technologies to better interact with communities.

“In the past decade, social media has risen to become one of the most important mediums for how we communicate with one another. Each day, more than 40% of Americans use Facebook to stay in touch with their family, friends and neighbors,” said Ryder Todd Smith. “ILG’s commitment to helping cities understand how to use this important technology is critical in creating transparent and engaged local governments. That is something Tripepi Smith will always support.”

The Institute for Local Government was established in 1955 with the support of a Ford Foundation grant to promote inter-jurisdictional cooperation among local government agencies. Since then, ILG has often anticipated issues that would soon confront local agencies. Through its research capacity, publications and training programs, ILG has been a leader in addressing topics that ultimately become urgent public policy issues.

“The support from sponsors like Tripepi Smith is critical to the work the Institute for Local Government does with cities, counties and special districts,” said Melissa Kuehne, Communications and Development Manager for the Institute for Local Government. “Our sponsors’ generous contributions allow ILG to continue to help local governments implement good governance practices and create healthy, vibrant and sustainable communities.”
