Social Media News to Know – May 2025
Tripepi Smith’s Always-Be-Learning (#ABL) culture drives us to stay up to speed on constantly changing social media platforms. This knowledge empowers our team to track, interpret and adapt to the latest and greatest social media trends on behalf of the public agencies we serve. The following is the latest installment of our regular roundup of social media news you need to know:
- Meta has introduced a new AI chatbot app, “Meta View,” as it enters the competitive AI landscape. Powered by Llama 4, the app is designed for dynamic, conversational interactions and seamless back-and-forth engagement for users.
- Facebook has adopted new algorithm updates to reduce spammy content that targets irrelevant captions, excessive hashtags and engagement baiting. The platform hopes these changes will prioritize authentic interactions and overall, enhance user experience.
- Instagram is testing new customization options for its Notes feature, including background colors and emojis. These additions aim to help users make their Notes stand out and better express the tone or intent of their message.
- LinkedIn is simplifying the profile verification process for users with alternate names by allowing them to add their legal name as a secondary title. This legal name will appear alongside their LinkedIn display name to help confirm their identity.
- Meta is now rolling out ads on Threads to advertisers worldwide, expanding on a test that began earlier this year. The Threads feed will be automatically included as a placement in new campaigns using Advantage+ or Manual Placements, though advertisers can opt out if they choose.
