Social Media News to Know – November 2024
Tripepi Smith’s Always-Be-Learning (#ABL) culture drives us to stay up to speed on constantly changing social media platforms. This knowledge empowers our team to track, interpret and adapt to the latest and greatest social media trends on behalf of the public agencies we serve. The following is the latest installment of our regular roundup of social media news you need to know:
- Instagram is experimenting with direct message (DM) filters for Creator Accounts. Notably, Creators will have the option to sort messages by type of account (verified, business, creator or subscriber). The platform hopes this will simplify the DM request process while avoiding spam content.
- Also from Instagram are new AI profile photo generation features. The platform is playing around with tools that allow users to upload a photo and transform it into a unique, cartoon-like image. This is one of many AI options offered by Instagram.
- X is now offering users a “pinch to zoom” option for video content, visible in pop up messages at the beginning of in-feed videos. The platform hopes this will generate increased engagement and visibility on posts showcasing video content.
- Threads will soon allow all users to create topic feeds based on simple keyword searches. These custom feeds give users the opportunity to contribute to conversations and topics they are passionate about.
- Facebook has switched its primary metric to “views”. Moving away from “plays” and “impressions,” the platform is following Instagram’s lead of having a single distribution metric, creating a more streamlined, understandable way to measure performance.
