Tripepi Smith’s Always-Be-Learning (#ABL) culture drives us to stay up to speed on constantly changing social media platforms. This knowledge empowers our team to track, interpret and adapt to the latest and greatest social media trends on behalf of the public agencies we serve. The following is the latest installment of our regular roundup of social media news you need to know:

  1. X is rolling out a new media button in the app’s bottom navigation bar, designed to provide users with seamless access to immersive video content. This update underscores X’s growing emphasis on video as a central feature of the platform.
  2. Threads is introducing custom display names, allowing users to personalize their profiles independently of their Instagram display names. These can be updated once a week, with changes appearing exclusively on Threads.
  3. Also from Threads is a new way to share media that credits the creator. The updated process lets you share images or videos from other users’ posts noting the creator’s username in the top-left corner.
  4. Instagram is exploring new AI-powered video features through integration with Meta’s Movie Gen engine. These tools will enable users to make in-stream edits, transform backgrounds, update outfits and more, unlocking new levels of creativity.
  5. Meta is enhancing opportunities for creators to earn through affiliate links on Facebook by making supported product links more visible across Reels, videos, photos and text posts.  When an affiliate link is detected, Meta will prompt you to use the “paid partnership” label and pre-fill the affiliate link details when you select “add affiliate product link.”
