Social Media News to Know: August 2024
Tripepi Smith’s Always-Be-Learning (#ABL) culture drives us to stay up to speed on constantly changing social media platforms. This knowledge empowers our team to track, interpret and adapt to the latest and greatest social media trends on behalf of the public agencies we serve. The following is the latest installment of our regular roundup of social media news you need to know:
- Instagram expanded its Carousel feature to accommodate up to 20 frames in a single post. The platform has been experimenting with this option over the last few months, hoping to give users more creative control over their content.
- Meta has removed detailed targeting exclusions from its campaign process. While users previously had the ability to target specific demographics, interests and behaviors, the platform found that these options had a detrimental effect on ad performance. Now, Meta utilizes AI to more accurately display the right ads to the right users at the right time.
- X is rolling out new reply sorting options, allowing users to categorize comments by trending, most recent and most liked comments. A new way to customize your X experience, the platform hopes this update will simplify the comment sorting process.
- Also from X is the removal of all ads for X Premium+ subscribers. Those with the platform’s highest subscription package will now have an ad-free experience in their timelines, post replies and profiles.
- YouTube is experimenting with new video clip options in the Shorts feed with its Discovery Experiences feature. This includes offering a mix of video formats, notably long-form videos, in the vertically-aligned feed.
