Samsung Galaxy Note II Landing Everywhere

  |   Insights, Technology   |   No comment

One of my favorite technology news sites, theverge (www.theverge.com) is reporting today that the Samsung Galaxy Note II will be landing pretty much everywhere later this year. The Galaxy Note II is notable for one major feature: an absolutely huge 5.5 inch screen.  That screen size has led some to refer to the phone as a “phablet” – half phone, half tablet.  In this case, with touch screens, size matters – a lot.

Blackberry, while falling well behind the technology curve of other operating systems, always had the benefit of their qwerty keyboards. Hammering out a long email on a Blackberry was manageable. I once sat parked in my car and wrote a 750 memo while waiting for a meeting to start. Doing that on any touchscreen is a nightmare. You simply can’t get the same speed and comfort on touch screens. Enter the Note II. With a massive screen the spacing on the keyboard should offer the best hope of speedy and accurate typing. Assuming the underlying software is not an epic fail, this could be the productivity boost I have been looking for in my mobile device.

I am really fired up for this announcement, mostly because it is finally landing at Sprint (my carrier of choice since about 1998). As noted on theverge:

Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular will all be carrying the device, which features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, 16GB of storage, and a 1.6GHz quad-core processor.

So if you are the type to write long emails while being mobile (and not so vain as to be concerned with how small you head will look when you hold this phone up to your ear), and you have long abandoned your Blackberry, the Galaxy Note II might be your next best shot at typing bliss.
