Sales Tax Measure in Hawaiian Gardens Receives Support of Community

  |   News   |   No comment

On March 3, 2020, the residents of the City of Hawaiian Gardens passed Measure HG, an additional sales tax to fund general services, with a 60.72% yes vote of support. In the lead-up to the vote, the City had contracted with Tripepi Smith to lead its transparency and resident outreach on this critical policy matter that was going before the voters.

“The City knew, with a big Presidential Primary taking place that down ballot measures like a local sales tax could go unnoticed by our residents. The Council felt it was important for our residents to be well informed about this measure and to cut through the noise of the bigger national primary,” said City Manager of Hawaiian Gardens Ernie Hernandez. “Tripepi Smith collaborated well with our City Staff and listened to our feedback to ensure the information we shared with the public was accurate. They then took that information and ensured it was readily available to our community so they could vote with a full understanding of the measure. Working with Tripepi Smith was the best ballot measure process I have been through in my career.”

Tripepi Smith Senior Business Analyst Bria Balliet led the educational effort, with artistic support from Art Director Kevin Bostwick.

“Tripepi Smith was pleased to have worked with the Hawaiian Gardens leadership because of their dedication to transparency with their residents,” said Bria. “Our simple goal is to work with cities to help their residents make the most informed decision possible on voting day. The more complex part is that doing so must use every medium available to a city to reach all the residents.”

Tripepi Smith has previously led three ballot measure projects for Culver City.
