Patrick Atwater Joins Tripepi Smith
Tripepi Smith has a new senior business analyst in Patrick Atwater, effective Dec. 3, 2019. Patrick offers more than a decade of experience working in and around California local government. He comes from a family of public servants and offers a diverse array of skills that are ideally suited for Tripepi Smith.
“As a fourth generation Californian, I’m excited at the opportunity to support our local governments in their vital work,” Patrick said. “Tripepi Smith will allow me to help public managers and staff do their job better in our increasingly digital world.”
Patrick started his career at the Rose Institute of State and Local Government during college, where he used GIS mapping technologies to analyze redistricting and demographic projects for local governments across California. After graduation, he spent a year as a Coro Fellow in Public Affairs where he finished writing a book on the California dream. He then spent several years as an analyst at Public Financial Management, providing bond analysis for cities, water utilities and school districts across the state.
“Patrick adds important domain water industry knowledge to Team Tripepi Smith while also offering a breadth of public policy experience,” said President Ryder Todd Smith, a fellow Claremont McKenna College (CMC) and Rose Institute alumni. “I am thrilled to add another CMCer and Rose Institute alumni to our ranks. Tripepi Smith is experiencing tremendous growth, and our success is tied to adding quality talent like Patrick to our team of outstanding professionals.”
After graduate school, Patrick launched a public data nonprofit, Applied Research in Government Operations or “ARGO,” to support local governments with best-in-class data analytics tools. Patrick was recently invited to Australia to speak on the successes of ARGO’s California water data analytics work, which grew from a six-utility pilot to inform water efficiency investments for over 23 million Californians. In addition, ARGO’s street quality analytics were piloted in cities across the country and reached the semifinals in New York City Big Apps.
Patrick graduated with a dual major Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and Mathematics from Claremont McKenna College. He has a Masters of Science in Urban Science and Informatics from New York University. He lives with his wife in Los Angeles and enjoys intellectual and athletic adventures.
