The City of Palm Desert enlisted Tripepi Smith to conduct outreach and facilitate meetings during the city’s district formation process this year.

“Throughout Palm Desert’s district formation process, the City focused on ensuring that all members of our community had the opportunity to participate,” said Public Information Officer David Hermann. “To ensure success, we engaged outside experts on community outreach and leveraged all of the City’s communication platforms to engage our residents. Tripepi Smith was a critical partner in executing this work. Their website acumen and skills across print and digital mediums, meeting planning and facilitation, video production and Spanish language translation served the City well and kept up with the fast pace of this critical project.”

Working closely with city staff and local partners, Ryder and Junior Business Analyst Bryn Miller helped facilitate two community meetings, assisted with boosted posts and targeted messaging on social media and  created a bilingual section on the City’s website for the city’s districting efforts. Junior Business Analyst Sara Madsen produced social media graphics, as well as flyers and Powerpoint decks for the meetings.

“Our work in Palm Desert was a chance to apply the principles of communication regarding districting and redistricting that our team has learned over the years in a novel context,” said Tripepi Smith President Ryder Smith. “Palm Desert chose an innovative two-district model for their City, which required tailored and nuanced messaging to help residents understand the new system. Tripepi Smith loves a challenge, and we’re glad Palm Desert turned to us to help with their district formation outreach efforts.”

Many California cities are beginning to line up resources for the wave of redistricting activity that will be required in 2021 as a result of the 2020 Census counts. As a firm specializing in outreach, Tripepi Smith will be a key player in the redistricting processes for many cities. The firm organized the Rose Institute’s 2021 Redistricting: New Rules for California Local Governments conference this fall, bringing together nearly 200 local government professionals to discuss the upcoming process. In addition to supporting the City of Palm Desert, Tripepi Smith also supported the City of Orange with their districting process in 2019 and developed districting websites for more than a dozen agencies.

2021 redistricting is coming up fast. Tripepi Smith is here to help facilitate in person or virtual meetings, online workshops, create bilingual websites, handle outreach to local groups and manage social media outreach. Learn more about the services we offer.
