Mike shared meals with faculty, visited classrooms and spoke to student groups. In his sessions, he addressed the challenges facing the City Management profession, leadership and ethics in decision-making, the importance of effective communications at multiple levels and emerging trends among other topics. He also answered students’ current and pointed questions about sensitive negotiations, social justice, barriers to progress, pathways to career success and much more.

“Students at USC are clearly gaining critical thinking skills that, paired with future work experience, will result in strong public leaders for decades to come. I’m sure I learned as much or more from them as they did from me,” said Mike. “We have a motto here at Tripepi Smith, ‘always be learning,’ and it rings true through our partnership with USC CMF as both a sponsor and a supporter.”

CMF also hosted a keynote panel called, “City/County Manager Panel on Local Housing Solution.” Panelists included Los Angeles County CEO Sachi Hamai, Claremont City Manager Tara Schultz and CMF Board Member Darrell George.

“Tripepi Smith seems to be in every corner of the city management community. From their support of the USC CMF to their Director serving as the City Manager in Residence, Tripepi Smith is a significant partner to the city manager community throughout California,” said John Keisler, CMF Board Member and Economic Development Director with the City of Long Beach.”USC is the leader in developing local government professionals from an academic viewpoint, and the CMF program is a great example of that leadership.”

USC CMF and Tripepi Smith partnered in November 2018 to promote CMF’s programming, resources and opportunities to its community.
