Jon Moderated Public Engagement Panel at MMANC Webinar
Tripepi Smith Director Jon Barilone joined Renne Public Law Group (RPLG) Of Counsel Jenica Maldonado and Institute for Local Government (ILG) Senior Program Manager Melissa Keuhne for a panel discussion on public engagement as part of Municipal Management Association of Northern California’s (MMANC) ‘Webinar Wednesday’ series.
“The pandemic has brought on a wave of changes, especially in the local government world. One example is that public agencies had to scramble to establish fully virtual public meetings and, now, they are struggling with the demand to sustain hybrid methods of public engagement,” commented Jon. “Meeting public demand for services is a constant challenge, especially when you throw technological logistics in the mix. But I’m confident the MMANC webinar attendees now have deeper knowledge to share with their peers when evaluating their own plans.”
The panel spent the lunch hour on Wednesday, July 14, with MMANC members presenting ‘What to Expect for Public Engagement in a Hybrid World’. Melissa and Jenica shared their insights on the essence of public engagement and the legalities around it in two brief presentations. Afterwards, the panel engaged in a live discussion with opportunities for attendees to ask questions in which they reflected on the ways public engagement has changed over the pandemic, provided insight on strategies and tactics for effective communication, and discussed lessons learned from 2020 and early 2021.
“Tripepi Smith, ILG and RPLG were honored to be able to provide these insights and ease the transition for local government agencies,” Jon continued.
The Municipal Management Association of Northern California is a membership organization of local government management professionals located throughout the 49 counties of Northern California. MMANC was formed in 1950 to address the professional needs of public management staff.
