Jon Barilone Speaks on Social Media to the Claremont Marketing Group
On February 26, 2021, Tripepi Smith Director Jon Barilone led a virtual workshop for the Claremont Marketing Group at the Claremont Colleges. Approximately 16 students learned Jon’s story of coming into the role of a social media manager after graduating from Claremont McKenna College, as well as a blueprint for what they should do in their “first 100 days” as a social media manager.
“I’m dating myself here, but ‘theFacebook’ came out my sophomore year of college. The ‘social media manager’ job was not something that existed or that you could study for at the time,” said Jon. “I wanted to share my experiences with the Claremont Marketing Group to show them that technical knowledge is not as important as being a lifelong learner, a critical thinker and/or knowing how to stay organized. You can always learn how to use a new tool while on the job, but first you need to answer why you’re using that tool.”
As of March 2021, Tripepi Smith’s team has seven employees who attended (or still attend) the Claremont Colleges: five from Claremont McKenna, one from Scripps and one from Pitzer. The Claremont Marketing Group previously asked Tripepi Smith President Ryder Todd Smith to lead a workshop in Spring 2020.
