Costa Mesa Sanitary District Hosts Town Hall Meetings with Tripepi Smith Support
The Costa Mesa Sanitary District (CMSD) partnered with Tripepi Smith to plan and execute four Town Hall meetings August – October 2024 to engage with customers on the District’s new residential three-cart curbside collection system.
“CMSD is committed to proactively communicating about the transition to the new three-cart collection system, and the Town Halls provided a helpful forum for customers to ask questions and have them answered there in real-time,” said Scott Carroll, General Manager of CMSD. “We are grateful to Tripepi Smith for their support that led to such highly-attended, successful Town Hall meetings.”
Tripepi Smith’s Principal Jennifer Nentwig, Senior Business Analyst Sienna Boyd, Senior Business Analyst Kaitlyn Wu and Business Analyst Madeline Wilson aided in the Town Hall planning and publicized the Town Halls through several social media campaigns, press releases detailing the new system and an informational postcard. These efforts followed earlier communications that Tripepi Smith created for CMSD to inform customers of the upcoming collection system change.
The District’s new system is the result of California Senate Bill (SB) 1383. A requirement of the law is that jurisdictions with a two-cart system must transition to a three-cart system if their waste is not processed at a high-diversion facility. While District customers previously used an Organics Cart and a Mixed Waste Cart, they will now have an additional Recycling Cart and their Mixed Waste Cart will become a Landfill Cart.
“We are grateful to have assisted CMSD in raising awareness for the Town Halls and for the new collection system in general,” said Sienna. “Awareness and education go hand and hand, and we strived to drive engagement with customers that will help them transition smoothly to a new way of sorting their waste..”
