Institute for Local GovernmentThe Institute for Local Government (ILG) once again called on its partner Tripepi Smith to help celebrate California cities, and their achievements through ILG’s Beacon Program. ILG worked with Tripepi Smith to produce a video featuring the five cities that earned the prestigious 2018 Beacon Award. A crowd of more than 2,000 elected officials viewed the video at the League of California Cities Annual Conference & Expo in Long Beach.

“The Beacon Program recognizes and encourages agencies’ efforts to address climate change in a way that aligns with local values and priorities,” said Karalee Browne, program manager for the Sustainable Communities Program at the Institute for Local Government. “This is the second year that we’ve worked with the team at Tripepi Smith to recognize our Beacon Award winners, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. This recognition video tells the story of our five winning cities of 2018 while reminding the audience of ILG’s support through the Beacon Program.”

Established by ILG in 2009, the Beacon Award Program honors local governments’ voluntary efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy and adopt policies that promote sustainability. Based on level of achievement, participants can earn silver, gold or platinum Beacon Spotlight Awards in five categories: Agency Greenhouse Gas Reduction, Energy Savings, Natural Gas Savings, Best Practice Activities and Community Greenhouse Gas Reductions. When a participating city reaches milestones in all five categories, it is awarded the prestigious Beacon Award.

Tripepi Smith provided project management, video editing, voiceover services and graphics to fulfil the project in a tight timeframe for ILG. The project was led by Saara Lampwalla, junior business analyst.

“Public agencies throughout California benefit from storytelling and sharing best practices as a result of their involvement in the Beacon Program. Tripepi Smith is a long-standing partner of ILG, that leverages ILG’s resources, co-presents at conferences and supports their work through innovative marketing and public relations. Our work on the Beacon Award video project exemplifies this great partnership,” said Saara. “Tripepi Smith is thrilled that the ILG team called on us again to help celebrate the winners of the Beacon Awards.”
