Pantone's 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue

The new year and start of another decade brings a new Color of the Year from Pantone, a leader in color information. Color of the Year 2020 is Classic Blue, which Pantone describes as calm, confident, dependable and a mediator of connection

Reminiscent of the sky or the ocean at dusk, Pantone Color Institute says the timeless color is a strong foundation to begin a new era.

Although the ever-changing news cycle might be anything but peaceful, Classic Blue offers a sense of rest and tranquility as a cup of tea or morning yoga might. The “non-aggressive” and “easily relatable” color could also be associated with the coming of a new day, Pantone says.

As technology and best practices continue to develop, Tripepi Smith suggests using Classic Blue to bring a sense of reliability and agelessness to their messaging and design in the upcoming year.

Here are some ideas for integrating the Color of the Year into your brand or work:

1. Use Classic Blue in infographics, newsletters, social media graphics, website sliders or other marketing materials. Even temporarily modifying one’s Twitter or Facebook header and profile picture to include a Classic Blue element is effective.

TIP: When posting a Classic Blue-inspired graphic on social media, consider using the hashtag #COY2020 for added engagement or exposure that demonstrates your agency’s adaptability.

2. Provide branded swag in Classic Blue, if applicable. Clients can offer the branded good, Classic Blue or not, in a social media giveaway for one lucky follower or someone who comments on a post.

TIP: Make sure to use a black or white version of your logo so it stands out against the Classic Blue.

3. Purchase physical elements, such as a sign, banner, photo or table cover, in Classic Blue to make office visitors feel welcome and at ease.

4. Consider refreshing your employees’ business cards with Classic Blue touches to give clients a feel of consistency and dependability.
